- Founded in 1990 by then Mayor Sonny Bono, the Palm Springs International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in North America. The Festival has an attractive film sales and distribution record and is viewed by American distributors as one of the best Academy Award campaign marketing tools. The Festival also features cultural events, filmmaker tributes, industry seminars and an annual black-tie gala award presentation.

Nic Balthazar started his professional career as a theater reviewer. After a while, he moved on to become a film critic, first for a newspaper and then also for radio and television. In the meantime, he started developing a successful career as a cultural and travel reporter, director, presenter and talk show host for a variety of television programs.
When production company MMG acquired the film rights to his novel "Nothing Was All He Said," Balthazar was asked to both adapt his novel for the big screen and direct the film. Ben X is Balthazar's feature film debut as a director.
